Now the details:

1. SB CAN Endorses Kevin Ready for Superior Court Judge

SANTA BARBARA-- Today, Santa Barbara County Action Network (SB CAN) announced its endorsement of Kevin Ready for Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge in the upcoming election on June 3.

Because much of the focus of the Santa Barbara County Action Network (SB CAN) is related to environmental issues, we are particularly interested in electing a candidate who has a firm grasp of environmental law and land use policies, including the crucial provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  Legal questions concerning the quality of our water, the preservation of agricultural lands and open space, and the protection of endangered species and sensitive habitat are often decided in a Superior Court.

With over 30 years of experience in a broad range of civil, criminal, and environmental law, Kevin Ready has the experience that we are looking for.  As Senior Deputy County Counsel for the County of Santa Barbara for the past 18 years, he has advised the county on matters pertaining to land use, environmental law, real property, public works and transportation law, property taxation, municipal law, building and safety, and litigation. Ready also served as counsel for Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG), our regional transportation planning agency. In addition, he was the manager of BEACON, a public agency dedicated to protecting our coastline.

Kevin Ready demonstrates commitment to the SB CAN’s core principles of social justice, environmental protection, sustainable transportation, and conservation and expansion of affordable housing throughout Santa Barbara County.

Our endorsement means a lot to candidates and those supporting Measure V.  It’s important for us to elect supervisors who will help provide the housing and public transportation systems we need while preserving open space and agricultural lands.  It’s important to elect a Superior Court Judge with experience in environmental law, as well as civil and criminal law.  It’s important to pass a bond that will keep Santa Barbara City College strong and serving the interests of our community.

We are asking our members to support our candidates and Measure V by   putting out yard signs, volunteering to do precinct walks or phone banking, and making financial contributions, as well as voting for them on June 3.

SB CAN is organizing precinct walking on Saturday, May 24, for Farr and Sterling, and we’re helping to get yard signs out for Kevin Ready and Measure V.  Please contact us if you can help: call Olivia at 805-563-0463, or email her at Olivia@sbcan.org.
