County and City Candidates & Ballot Measures
County Supervisor, 3rd District. SB CAN endorses Doreen Farr, who will provide leadership for the County during the current budget crisis, while preserving vital services, protecting the environment, and meeting critical needs for housing and alternative transportation.
Goleta City Council. SB CAN endorses Margaret Connell and Ed Easton. Margaret is committed to affordable housing and carefully managed growth while preserving Goleta resources. Ed has been a leader on environmental issues since the 1970s and has demonstrated a keen commitment to his community.
Lompoc City Council. SB CAN supports Cecilia Martner, who understands the need for balancing jobs and housing, and who promotes "green" leadership for this city.
Santa Maria City Council. SB CAN supports Mike Cordero, who has a 36-year background in law enforcement, where he demonstrated his willingness to listen to people and help solve tough community problems. He encourages community involvement and an open and transparent government.
Goleta Water Board. SB CAN supports Lauren Hanson & Bill Rosen, who recognize that water is a limited commodity that must be allocated in a fair, transparent manner.
Measure A. SB CAN endorses the renewal of a one half cent transportation tax that will benefit everybody in the county, whether they are car dependent, pedestrians, bikers, bus riders, or kids on safe routes to school. Without the passage of Measure A, the funds that guarantee better transportation for all will disappear, which is dangerous at time in which state funds and federal funds are difficult to leverage.
Measure E, City of Buellton. SB CAN endorses this citizen-driven "Urban Growth Boundary Initiative," which will require a vote of Buellton citizens before any land can be annexed to the city. This measure promotes careful community participation in the planning process, which is a cornerstone of democracy.
U.S. and State Candidates Representing Local Districts
U. S. Congress 23rd District. SB CAN supports the re-election of Congress member Lois Capps, who fought to preserve the moratorium on offshore drilling this fall, while speaking with reason, insight, and resolve.
State Senate, 19th District. SB CAN supports Hannah-Beth Jackson for her long standing record as an environmentalist and as a leader with a progressive vision and compass.
State Assembly, 35th District. SB CAN supports the re-election of Pedro Nava and applauds his leadership this past year in convening county agencies to reform regulations for on-shore drilling to prevent the repeated oil spills that have been plaguing our county.
