On Saturday, June 21st, Santa Barbara will join cities across the country in a collective stand for transgender rights, access to gender affirming care and the right of every person to live as their authentic self.
The “Proud and Free: United for Trans Power Rally” will take place from 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m. in front of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, located at 1100 Anacapa Street.
This rally follows a deeply concerning decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 18th in U.S. v. Skrmetti, which upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth.
Coming just days after Children’s Hospital Los Angeles announced the closure of its Center for Transyouth Health and Development, the ruling represents another blow to trans healthcare and safety across the country. Now more than ever, our community must come together to affirm that trans people belong, and their lives and choices matter.
This event is part of a national day of action organized by Lambda Legal and the ACLU, with local events taking place in cities across the country.
The Santa Barbara rally is hosted by the Santa Barbara Transgender Advocacy Network (SBTAN) in partnership with Pacific Pride Foundation, PFLAG Santa Barbara, Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, Indivisible Santa Barbara, and Women’s March Santa Barbara.

The Natural History Museum of Santa Maria is hosting a talk on how to replace your lawn with a water-wise (native) garden. Saturday, June 21st at 3:00 PM at the Santa Maria Public Library.
Our guest speakers are from the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), mainly Zach Tanner. Zach is a landscape architect, garden designer and native plant expert. Zach, Bill Waycott, and perhaps another speaker will discuss "Why Lawns", "Why Native Plants", how to remove your lawn, native garden design considerations, recommended plants, and additional resources. I will briefly talk about the City of Santa Maria Smart Landscape Rebate Program and mention other similar programs in SB and SLO counties.

Falcon Launch Program at Vandenberg Space Force Base
and Public Hearings
The Department of the Air Force (DAF) is issuing this notice to inform the public of the availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Authorizing Changes to the Falcon Launch Program at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB), California. The Draft EIS was prepared to analyze the potential environmental effects associated with:
- The DAF’s authorization of the redevelopment of Space Launch Complex (SLC)-6 to support Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy operations, including launch and landing at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB);
- The DAF’s authorization of an increase in Falcon 9 launches and landings at VSFB and downrange landings in the Pacific Ocean; and
- The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) licensing Space Exploration Technologies Corporation’s (SpaceX) Falcon operations at VSFB and approval of related airspace closures.

The public is also invited to provide comments on the project’s potential to affect historic properties pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Comments may be submitted at the in-person public hearings, the virtual public hearing, online via the project website at www.VSFBFalconLaunchEIS.com, or by U.S. postal mail to:
