From The Fund for Santa Barbara:

Community Speak Out
Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 9:15 am
Santa Barbara County Administration Building
105 E Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara
Please wear white in solidarity.

In response to last Thursday’s violent immigration raids in Carpinteria and Camarillo—where ICE agents detained more than 200 people during coordinated operations at Glass House Farms—The FUND for Santa Barbara, the 805 Immigrant Coalition, and community partners are calling on you to join us for a Community Speak-Out ahead of tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Last week, ICE descended on our communities with military-style force—storming worksites, detaining hundreds, and unleashing chaos that ultimately led to the tragic death of Jaime Alanís Garcia, a farmworker and community member who fell 30 feet during the raid and later died of his injuries. Families were torn apart in broad daylight. Hundreds of community members gathered to defend their neighbors and were met with tear gas and smoke bombs.

Let us be clear: This is state-sanctioned terror—carried out with impunity, and now with deadly consequences.

We urge you to show up, speak out, and stand with immigrant families in Santa Barbara County. Join us at the Board of Supervisors meeting and plan to speak during public comment. Our voices matter. Tomorrow, we are calling on the Board of Supervisors to:

  • Support the ACLU of Southern California’s federal lawsuit challenging unconstitutional ICE raids, and direct County Counsel to explore legal options such as amicus support,

  • Allocate $1 million in emergency funding to immigrant-rights organizations providing legal aid, rapid response, and Know-Your-Rights education,

  • Raise the minimum wage for farmworkers to $26/hour to protect and respect the essential labor of those most impacted.

The FUND for Santa Barbara was created for moments like this. We’ve already granted over $450,000 to immigrant-rights groups across the county—and as this crisis escalates, we’re committed to doing more. Frontline organizations are stretched thin supporting those detained, deported, or separated from their families.

For those who have supported, thank you. For those of you sitting on the sidelines, the time to step up is now. Join us in resourcing the resistance.
