April 17 ACEs Trauma-Informed Workshop Recap

On April 17, SBCAN sponsored our first and free ACEs (Adversity in Childhood Experiences) Trauma-Informed workshop for nonprofits serving houseless and low-income Goleta residents. Our speaker Susan Jones with Creative Behavior Systems spoke to nonprofit staff from organizations like CAUSE, SB Americorps, the Turner Foundation, and Future Leaders of America.
The purpose of the workshop was to give nonprofit staff tools in behavior, communication, and understanding to better serve their populations, especially with those who can be more likely to be in stressful situations.
The workshop not only taught us about effects of stress for our community members, but it also guided us through self-reflection, explaining how we may have also experienced adversities which impact our behaviors.
SBCAN Co-Executive Director Ken Hough and Assistant Director Nancy Avoce both participated in the workshop.
Thank you for joining us in becoming more trauma-aware!
