Saturday, January 31 from 11am-2pm
Solvang Park, 1630 Mission Dr, Solvang
Please join us in supporting our friends in Greenland and Denmark, Saturday, January 31st.
We are not worried about your political associations. We truly feel this is something we can almost all agree on. There will be signs available at the rally, your signs are welcome too. Let’s make sure the powers that be know we are coming together to make an important point.
Solvang Stands with Greenland and Denmark is a peaceful, community-led gathering to affirm our shared values of self-determination, democracy, and respect for international partnerships. The rally will bring together residents, local leaders, and community members who believe that global cooperation and mutual respect matter—especially in moments of uncertainty.
Purpose: To stand in solidarity with the people of Greenland and Denmark and to voice support for democratic norms and international respect.
This event is non-partisan, welcoming, and grounded in the belief that small communities can speak clearly and constructively on global issues that reflect our shared values.
We hope you’ll consider attending, sharing this information, or covering the event. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like additional details or to speak with organizers.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1

Sunday, Feb 1, 1-3 PM POP-UP PROTEST: ICE OUT of SANTA MARIA, ICE OUT of EVERYWHERE, ICE out of 805 PROTEST in solidarity with Minnesota and ICE OUT for GOOD!! S. Broadway & E. Main.
INDIVISIBLE SANTA MARIA
Customs and Border Patrol under Homeland Security has murdered another person in Minneapolis, in broad daylight, on video. This was not an accident or an isolated incident. There is no finger-pointing or spin Trump and Republicans can put on this to convince anyone otherwise. This is murder-just like we saw with Renee Good.
Join Indivisible Santa Maria for a pop-up protest to honor Alex Pretti, and to support the cause for which he lost his life.
This Protest will be simple, and without safety monitors or tabling. Remember all Indivisible actions are committed to non-violence as a guiding principle in everything we do: our protests, our organizing, and our advocacy. We expect all participants to try to de-escalate any potential confrontations with those who disagree with our values.
2025 was ICE’s deadliest year in two decades. Here are the 32 people who died in custody. Read about these people and show up Sunday The Guardian

SBCAN co-executive director was quoted in Santa Maria Sun coverage of Jan. 20
Santa Maria City Council meeting

With one hand holding onto a cardboard cutout of a silhouetted body, Jeanne Sparks told the Santa Maria City Council she doesn’t want to see local officials stand idly by while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations escalate.
“We can’t let them do to our community what they have done elsewhere,” Sparks said at the council’s Jan. 20 meeting. “ICE is out of control. They use excessive force. … They arrest people without warrants, including citizens.”
Propped up next to Sparks, at the public comment podium, was the silhouetted cutout, with the words, “She was good,” written on the figure’s chest. Splattered red paint was at the center of its head.
“Renée Good was recently killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota. She was a peaceful protester,” Sparks said. “You could tell from the way her wheels were turned that she was not trying to hit the ICE agent, but he shot her anyway. Four times.”
Sparks was among several speakers during public comment for non-agenda items who urged the council to establish an ad hoc committee dedicated to collecting information about local ICE activity and promoting new initiatives to increase protections for immigrants.
