MESSAGE FROM SIERRA CLUB

EMERGENCY PROTEST

FRIDAY, JUNE 5

5:30 PM

OUTSIDE CEC HUB, 1219 STATE ST, SANTA BARBARA

From Emily Engel, June 5, 2026:

Sorry for sending this on short notice.

We believe that the Secretaries of Energy and the Interior will be in Santa Barbara tomorrow. There are planned meetings with County officials based on some information we have seen and they may be having a press conference, but we have not been able to get specific location and time yet.

Since it is difficult to get the info and get us all to whatever location they are at, we came up with Plan B. Please share widely!

Our plan is to hold a protest outside CEC 1219 State St. at 5:30 [FRIDAY, JUNE 5] as many of us will already be there for Climate Friday. We will bring signs and we ask that you wear Red if you are coming. We will have a short action and hopefully get some photos and be together in solidarity and protest!

Join us on June 28 at the stunning Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez as we celebrate Santa Barbara County Action Network turning 25−and what a quarter-century it's been!

We're raising a glass to Co-Executive Directors Jeanne Sparks and Ken Hough, who have poured their hearts into leading Santa Barbara County Action Network for 14 remarkable years.

Under their guidance, SBCAN diversified its board, deepened community partnerships, and championed environmental, economic, and social justice across the county. Their legacy is woven into everything we do.

While we'll miss them at the helm, the story continues! Ken joins the SBCAN Board of Directors and Jeanne steps into the SBCAN Advisory Council — so their wisdom stays close.

And the future? It's bright. We're thrilled to welcome Nancy Avoce as our incoming Executive Director, effective July 1.

Spotted early as a rising star by Jeanne and Ken, Nancy has spent nearly three years as Assistant Director exceeding every expectation. She's now building a dynamic, energized team ready to take SBCAN to bold new heights.

U.S. Senator Adam Schiff and State Senator Monique Limón have been invited and will try to make it.

We hope to see them−and you, too! Come celebrate with us!

Onward in the fight!

Co-Presidents Lawanda Lyons-Pruitt and Dick Flacks
