Santa Barbara County Action Network and the Environmental Defense Center (EDC) celebrate a big win for preservation of agricultural land in the Santa Ynez Valley!
The developers of Rancho La Laguna recently withdrew their appeal, leaving in place a Superior Court decision in favor of preserving agriculture.
In 2010, Rancho La Laguna went before the county with a proposal to subdivide 4,000 acres of ranch land near Foxen Canyon Road bordering Los Padres National Forest. The project would have included 13 parcels for high-end residential estate development.
SBCAN and the Environmental Defense Center (EDC) got involved due to the county not requiring an Environmental Impact Report from the proposed project. When the county agreed to provide one and the project went before the Planning Commission, the project was denied.
Although the applicants appealed the decision multiple times, the project was denied each time.
