SBCAN Executive Director
Nancy Avoce steps into the role of Executive Director after nearly three years of dedicated service to SBCAN as Assistant Director.
Throughout her time with SBCAN, Nancy has strengthened the organization's civic engagement efforts, cultivated relationships with community partners, and helped expand opportunities for residents to help shape their own communities.
She has built broad coalitions and worked alongside partners to identify where SBCAN can advance complementary efforts which support housing affordability, sustainable land use, and thriving, inclusive communities.
Murray Dawson
SBCAN South County Director
My name is Murray Dawson, born and raised in Santa Barbara and Goleta. I hold a B.S. in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego and an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Brandeis University, where I completed my master's paper on housing policy in the City of Santa Barbara under the advisement of Councilmember Kristen Sneddon.
I also serve as a U.S. Army Officer in the California Army National Guard, Corps of Engineers. My most recent roles before joining SBCAN were as a Health Policy Research Assistant at Brandeis University’s Schneider Institutes for Health Policy and Research and as a Summer Fellow at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.
It’s an honor to be a member of the SBCAN team, and an incredible privilege to serve my home county. I'm looking forward to helping SBCAN expand its projects and organize itself for even more success and another great 25 years.
