We need your help to stop Sable's dangerous oil project in Santa Barbara.

The onshore pipeline servicing three 1980s-era offshore oil platforms has been inactive since it ruptured and spilled hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil onto the coastline 10 years ago. It was one of California’s worst ever oil spill disasters polluting more than 150 miles of the coastline.

Now a Texas oil company (Sable Offshore Corp.) is moving fast to restart this failed pipeline so it can resume pumping and transporting oil from three offshore oil platforms off the Santa Barbara coast. So far the project has moved forward with zero environmental review and no opportunity for public comment. Sable ignored multiple Cease and Desist Orders from the California Coastal Commission, showing they are moving full steam ahead unless state agencies reel them in with stronger enforcement and oversight actions.

As EDC laid out in a letter submitted earlier this week, California State Parks must require a full environmental review before making any decision on Sable’s application for a new easement to operate and maintain the pipeline across Gaviota State Park, a cherished public resource and sensitive habitat.

Can you call Governor Gavin Newsom and California State Parks Director Armando Quintero, and urge them to carry out a full environmental review of the restart project?

I’m extremely disappointed to see Trump cheerleading the success of the Santa Ynez Unit, an offshore drilling project off California’s coast. Not a single agency under your leadership has committed to conducting a full environmental review for the proposed restart, including for the defective pipeline that caused the 2015 disaster.

None of us want another major oil spill, and we need strong leadership from you to stop that from happening. 

Please reverse course and stand up to protect California’s coast from offshore drilling. Thank you.”
