Solidarity Concert & March

Thursday, January 15 at 4 PM
625 S. McClelland St, Santa Maria

Featuring LIVE performances by Los Jornaleros del Norte & La Autentica Vallarta!

The Fund for Santa Barbara has invited Los Jornaleros del Norte (The Day Laborer Band) from Los Angles and local group La Autentica Vallarta Band to share their music with the community.

LJDN was formed in 1996 after an ICE raid in Los Angeles at a health clinic. The Band has become a symbol for the most rejected sectors of society by reflecting the festive spirit and struggle of Latin American people.  La Autentica Vallarta is a very popular regional band, frequently performing their local Mexican music around Santa Maria venues.

The concert will start at Future Leaders of America (FLA) and will continue with the band on a flatbed truck.

Please join in and march along as it travels around the neighborhood.

People's Hearing on Offshore Oil Drilling -

Friday, January 16th
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
CEC HUB, 1219 State Street, Santa Barbara

Please join us in Santa Barbara on Friday, January 16th to show your support for protecting California from the federal administration’s plan to open our coast to new offshore oil and gas development. The People's Hearing will include an educational presentation from Maggie Hall at the Environmental Defense Center; comments from local representatives, community leaders, tribal representatives, and industry professionals; and opportunities for public engagement in the federal process.

Local organizations will also be tabling for you to learn more about their work and how you can get involved. And did we mention there will be live music by Brengrass and free pizza and drinks?!

In November, the Department of the Interior announced its draft plan to open up the California Coast, including fragile regions like the Santa Barbara Channel, to new oil and gas development. The 60-day comment period ends on January 23, 2026, and we need your voice. Increased drilling in the ocean not only threatens more oil spill disasters on the California coast. It would also significantly harm air quality, public health, the Earth’s climate, and wildlife in one of the most biodiverse marine areas in the world. Please join us in advocating for the protection of our favorite beaches, local surf spots, wildlife, coastal economy, and a clean energy future.

Speak up to say no new drilling off our coast!

If you can't make the People's Hearing, click here to submit your comments before January 23 to the BOEM online portal.

SPEAKERS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Congressman Salud Carbajal
  • Actor, Advocate, and Oceana Board Member Ted Danson
  • Assemblymember Gregg Hart
  • Santa Barbara Supervisor Laura Capps
  • Chumash Leader Mia Lopez

ICE OUT FOR GOOD

We are heartened by all the people we see turning out to protest the brutal actions of I.C.E.

We displayed our Silent Witnesses at the Santa Maria ICE OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES protest on Saturday, January 10 organized by Indivisible Santa Maria.

Our Silent Witnesses and community members made the front page of the Santa Maria Times, were highlighted in an email blast by the Fund for Santa Barbara and were seen by about 30,000 people across the nation in our social media posts (29,972 viewers, 62,350 views).

We have gotten significant feedback on the impact they are making. We are glad we can play a small part in bringing attention to the devastation perpetuated by I.C.E.
